Nearby Attractions in Ooty
At an altitude of 1839 meters Coonoor offers an equal competition to Ooty with mild and cool climate throughout the year. It has got its own Sim Park, a small well maintained Botanical garden and Tea estates. Some people prefer to call it the Tea city of Nilgiri and It has well established tea market in South India. Ooty is just 19 Kms up and Mettupalayam is 28 Kms down.
Bird watching and the water falls around the estates are good pastime for tourists. The English film ‘The Passage To India’ based on E M Foster’s novel was shot here.
Kotagiri means ‘mountain of Kotas’ a hill tribe. It was discovered in 1819 by the then Coimbatore Collector’s assistants. Sullivan the Collector took interest in the village. His age old house in Kotagiri is still an attraction for Heritage fans. Kotagiri is at an altitude of 1783 meters above sea level. It is basically an agriculture town. Tea and coffee estates surround the town. The forests near by are famous for elephants, panther , flying squirrel etc. The town offers trekking and bird watching to nature lovers.
The Catherine falls, Elk falls, Rangaswamy peak and Rangaswamy pillar are the nearby places to visit. The well known place is Kodanad point which offers a panoramic view of Blue mountains and ever green valleys. The trekking routes are Kotagiri-Kodanad Kotagiri-Longwood, Kotagiri and Catherine falls.
Masinagudi is situated at the border of Karnataka and near Mudumalai sanctuary. The place is noted for nature’s abundance and serene, peaceful unpolluted atmosphere. Here you are very close to nature’s bounty- forests, flora and fauna. Go and just laze in any of eco-tourism resorts. You need not set any alarm in your cellphones; The morning alarm, which never alarm us, is from the birds; whistling, chirping and singing birds. The resort people guide you. They arrange safaris.
